  • Yeah I was gonna say, one of the defining features of the large sauropods was a low body density due to the air sacks in their huge necks and hollow bones. Those adaptations were likely required to achieve their size. So you have a really big animal with relatively low density and high surface area, that thing is going right up into the sky and getting smashed to bits when it lands.

  • There’s no way our bodies are “supposed” to be. There’s the way they are and the way they were. Also some brave and dedicated individuals can apparently overcome lactose intolerance through exposure therapy. Basically they eat a bunch of dairy every day for weeks until their gut biome readjusts to digest lactose without all the discomfort. Apparently the gas and bloating are caused by the overgrowth of some bacteria and it just takes some time to find a new equilibrium so you don’t get big blooms every time you eat lactose.

I always thought of FAFO as a condensed proverb meaning basically “Think about what you’re about to do and the potential consequences before you do it, otherwise you may overlook an obvious pitfall and blunder straight into it”. I’ve mostly seen it applied to people behaving recklessly in one way or another. Sometimes it’s rednecks doing some jackass style stunt with no payoff, sometimes it’s a business making an obvious blunder that could have easily been avoided, sometimes it’s a politician doing the same. In this sense it’s less about some notion that doing stupid things will come back to hurt you in some unpredictable way and more about the self inflicted consequences that could have been avoided with like 5 minutes of thought. Like you could just leave that snake alone that you can clearly see and aren’t being forced to approach, and you definitely don’t need to put your hand in it’s face and fuck with it, and oh shocked pikachu it bit you who could have seen this coming (except everyone). So to me at least, all it’s saying is just think for a minute before you do something, and maybe don’t do it if you’re most likely going to regret it.

    So to summarize

Fuck around = do something reckless without thinking

Find out = suffer the avoidable consequences of your lack of forethought

  • It would help if most of them didn’t completely cheap out on the power modulation. Most of them do this half assed PWM over like 10 seconds, so they’re on at max power or off, which to be fair is a pretty unintuitive way to cook for most people. It would be much better if they just put out some fraction of full power continuously. It makes much more sense and removes the annoying complexity. Some microwaves do it but they’re few and far between.
